The University of the West Indies Press (UWI Press) collaborative project with Roland Butcher, author, the Open Campus, and the Mintlangu Sports Foundation in South Africa. This partnership aims to create a unique publication that combines sports, education, and community development.

Roland Butcher South Africa Tour 2023
Embracing more than 40 years of experience as an International Cricket player and Coach,
UEFA Qualified Football Coach, Administrator, Innovator, Author, Tv and Radio Commentator.
Roland’s achievements are exceptional, which takes account of more than twelve
Championship Trophies and Awards. Despite facing racism and discrimination due to being
the first black cricketer to play Test and One Day International Cricket for England, the
passion and transforming the cricket industry became his driving force.
Born 1953 October 14 in St Philip, Barbados, West Indies. Roland is the first black legendary
professional batsman, who made history in Barbados the place of his birth, on March 13 1981
during his debut Test Match, between West Indies and England.
The pupose of Butcher’s tour is to empower the South African Cricket and Football industries,
correspondingly introducing his soccer methodology that is going to equip soccer coaches
with proficient and skilful techniques.
In addition the tour will embrace cultural exchanges, sharing of ideas, tradition and
knowledge about Caribbean people. This will be executed by the hosting of a book fair, which
will present Caribbean Authors to the Republic of South Africa
